The reason I suggested it might be a network issue is that I live like 20min from Palladium and almost everyone I've spoken to over the last few days has had trouble with their internet service. The storm might be south of us... but so are a lot of the server assets belonging to the major ISPs serving this area. bullshit. I live in Monroe no internet problems for us at all. Like he said its a possibility not a fact. Truth is we have no idea what the reason for the delay may be. Only that there is a delay.

But the possibility isn't moot. Internet like electricity and phone service is funny. One block could have full service while the next gets intermittent service while the last block has none.
I don't think this is the case but it is a possibility.

I don't think this is the case but it is a possibility. The possibility is remote, to be sure, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility. Some ISPs seem to be hit worse than others by this... Comcast and AT&T seem to have got the worst of it, based on the spread of outages and service interruptions. It's more likely that some kind of administrative SNAFU has occurred at Palladium. Somehow, my bet is that the PDF is overly large and is causing the mail server Palladium uses to reject the file...

Palladium is having no problem sending out their weekly update and posting it to their site.
They did not claim any computer problems then. If there were, they'd have been mentioned.
The Palladium store is still up. Still accepting money. Lemme tell ya, if their internet was down 2 weeks before Christmas in their biggest sell month of the year when most of their sales are online, we'd know about it.
The 'problem' is that they've not -done- it yet. Now if that includes 'Durr we don't know how, because we refuse to use Drivetru" That's fine, but it still boils down to we don't have them, because they've not yet sent them out.
Not any physical inability to do so.
It's 6:30 in their time zone. I'm doubtful they're all sitting around the werehouse, watching a clock into the night for no reason what so ever, to release the book sometime tonight guys. It's dark and cold in MI. If they were going to do it, it'd have been done before now.
Monday? Tuesday? Who knows. We'll probably get it before Christmas. Past that, we don't know. It was promised Thursday and then over the weekend. That's been missed. They'll do it whenever they get around to it.
As a funny aside. If you get the rifter, check out the latest issue for what they're 'claiming' they released this year. They've claimed 10 releases. Rifter 61 Rifter 62 Rifter 63 Rifter 64 Robotech Tactics Robotech Macross Saga RUE Vampires Sourcebook NG1 Fear the Reaper.
Now.. I don't know about you guys but a fanzine I don't count as a book release. And they've been late. The one I got yesterday December 7th was the Halloween issue.
So knock the top 4 off the list Robotech Tactics.... DIDN'T Come out. They took the money sure. It was supposed to be out in December, but they're not even into production yet. In the rifter they're saying Maybe February. So that one's off.
Macross Saga came out years ago, even the full sized one did. This is a reprint. Not a new book. The RUE came out 7 or 8 years ago as well. A reprinting is not a new book.
That leaves Vampires Sourcebook, Northern Gun 1, and Fear the Reaper. As 'book' releases this year and that's being very generous. Fear the reaper is 48 pages. half the size of a rifter. Technically it's a book but it's a splat.
They've produced 2 full books this year. Three if you count a 48 page splat.
Then it goes on to claim these for the first quarter.
Rifter 65 in Jan Northern gun 2 Megaverse in Flames UEEF Marines Charos Earth Rise of magic Robotech Tactics Boxed game Robotech tactics expansion kits.
For the first three months of the year
If we get the rifter and NG 2 I'll be surprised. We MIGHT get NG 2 by March, but I wouldn't bet the house on it.

Yeah. I still think it's funny they're claiming more full books in the first three months of next year than they produced the entire year this year. Do I hope they actually do it? Yes. Very much so. Do I think they're going to produce a book a month? lol No way in hell.

I don't think any sane person thinks they can do it. For any given value of "sane"... I'm sure there are some folks who aren't familiar with Palladium's release habits that might be confused into thinking that isn't just hilarious optimism. The Robotech lads have the worst of it, since not only have they run out of material already, the "new", not-actually-Robotech material is prettyy much all they have to look forward to.

I have said it before after 30 years I can not believe that even Kevin is dense enough to think his projections accurate... There has to be an underlying "business sense" to it. And as has been pointed out many times... Business sense and common sense are often strangers.

It doesn't make business sense to constantly lie to your customers either.
Which is what it is. He knows those dates aren't going to get hit. He says otherwise. It's a lie.

And therein lies the problem... Business sense is often full of contradictions like that. He continues to make this choice... I for one cannot believe he does it to spite us nor can I believe he is unaware of the improbability of them hitting those deadlines. Therefore there must be some reason of which we are unaware that necessitates he make these claims. Does it make me happy? no. Does bitching about it incessantly change it? Not in the last 30 years it hasnt... So what good does it do me to get twisted in knots over it? none what so ever.

That's you. Which is fine. Some of us do feel better when we bitch. Considering all the stuff that's gone wrong for Palladium over the years, I like to think Kevin is just unnecessarily optimistic... though some of his former employees have commented on this subject... saying that he really does intend to meet those release dates, but falls short because his employee relations and editorial process suck.

I don't buy it.
Customers can accurately predict when they're not going to hit them. When your entire forums board can look at a release schuelde and everyone go "No way in hell he's pulling that off" he doesn't 'honestly think he's going to"
It's his 9-5 job for 30 years. If he honestly 'doesn't know, he's fucking stupid. Not just dim but fucking stupid. OR.. He's got a mental problem with self delusion. Or he's lieing.
I don't think he's got mental problems. I don't think he's fucking stupid. He's telling a lie. There's a difference.
I think he lies, because it sounds good and it keeps people on the hook. Not because he belives his own crap.
The guy's not an evil mastermind or mustash twirling villain. It's a simple 'I'll say X Y and Z are coming out, to keep people hyped up about X Y and Z. And we'll get them out when we get them out.

I don't buy it. It's a simple 'I'll say X Y and Z are coming out, to keep people hyped up about X Y and Z. And we'll get them out when we get them out. From what some of his estranged former employees have said on the matter, when a new property or title is pitched to him he gets a little too excited and starts hyping it far earlier than he should... an unpleasant tendency that, coupled with his habit of not making an effort to properly communicate his intent to the writers, is said to result in may delays due to eleventh hour rewrites whenever the author hasn't read his mind to figure out what his vision for that particular book may have been. Starting the hype machine too early plus bad communication and a last minute rewrite supposedly really slows things down. Whether or not this the unvarnished truth, I cannot say... having not met the author who made those particular allegations. I believe that jaymz does have a transcript of some or all of those relevant remarks tho...

There have been a few production schedules that kevin posts... most of the would be stiff for wotc or pazio to meet... print publishers have a delay in printing... one issue publishers like onyx path are able to avoid with digital and.pod publishing.

Yeah, but Wolfe, how often is it a problem with the printer or shipping from the printer? Kevin would have NO problem blaming them (we've already established his willingness to use whatever excuse). We've seen a handful of times over the course of the company's history. The simple fact is, there is ONE person to blame for the FUBAR'd release schedule. The person making the calls.
It has nothing to do with the printer, weather, internet, etc etc etc. It's the person saying stuff is going to come out when he knows damn good and well that it won't.
Need we mention the "few weeks" to finish NG1 and ship it to the printer?

Palladium Books® Weekly Update – February 23, 2012 [sarcasm]2 weeks later.. he is looking at concept art for a book that is to be released in less than 40 days... a bad sign.. but damnit he will come through for me, I know it... Palladium Books® Weekly Update – March 1, 2012 no one should be worried that the book split into 2 parts and slipped back a month or 2... this one will be on time now for sure.. were Still anxious here in Dec 2013... Palladium Books® Weekly Update – March 8, 2012 no worries here... the book got split, that warrants a delay... 2 awesome books, anxious for both now... nah, no one wants Robotech Minis.. silly Kevin... no way in hell people would give like 1.4 million dollars for you to make minis... Palladium Books® Weekly Update – March 15, 2012 He's still pimping a May release... still kinda anxious here in 2013... how many of these 2012 books came out in 2012? I know he can do it, he's left me down before, but omg, these books are gonna be sweet... Palladium Books® Weekly Update – March 29, 2012 man, WOW, what an awesome book... nothing can delay it now... 90-95% done and my socks are packed with dynamite ready to be blown off... and NG2 is gonna be simple.. 2 months tops... [/sarcasm] now I could continue this farce for the next 90 updates... that would detail the absurd nature of what were feed week to week about the products... before people invested in the NG1 and 2 Insiders, his delays were a non-issue... being that he took money upfront for a product he claimed 21 months ago was 90% done... people should be a little upset and rightfully feel betrayed each and every update that said 90+% done.. next month... next month... next month...

I called just before 5pm. I'm not sure whom I spoke to (I don't know them by voice on the phone) but he was very nice. Apologized and told me none of them went out.
Long story short... "It's broken". And no one has any clue why. The gentleman on the phone, very calmly and very politely told me that he didn't know why it was broken, just that it was, and he didn't understand the technical aspects of it. So he couldn't tell me how it was broken. Just that it was. Their technical guy had looked at it, and it remained broken.
He had no ETA for the PDF's going out, as the tech guy in question had left to go to the store to buy a printer. So there wasn't even anyone there to ask.
I'll re-iterate. He was very nice. Very apologetic.
That being said. "It's broke with no current ETA on fixing it" Is what I was told. (Very politely)
I made sure he was aware and asked him to pass it up the chain, that we'd donated money to get this book made over 18 months ago and frankly people felt they were being jerked around. He said he knew and he understood, but basically he's just the guy answering the phone, and while he totally was nice and apologized from Palladium, there was nothing he could do about it.
Said that when they got any update that he'd try and make sure we knew, but right now, they have no clue.

From what I could pick up, the pdf is fine, it's the 'giving it to the people that paid money for it so many months ago' part that's broken.
Annnnd... they managed to break a printer as well, which they have the tech guy out replacing.

Sorry guys. I tried. I was sitting here reading posts, and on the official boards and going "Well why doesn't someone just fuckin' call um and ask?" And then it dawned on me "Well.. I'm someone".
So then I weighed my laziness vs wanting to know.
So after a few minutes I called.

And here we have, in detail, the reason of the slow death of Palladium Books.
And what will happen when the lawyers and wall street get their way (probably in the next year) and crowdsourcing will be, BY LAW, an "investment" in the company, and make people part owners? One GOOD crowdsourcing later, Kevin could find himself being ousted by the very fans he's alienating now...
