What martial arts does Batman do? In: Entertainment & Arts, Martial Arts [Edit categories] Answer:
In the original 1940's comic books, it was Boxing and Jiu Jitsu (Judo), in other words the martial arts practice by American police officers of the time. In some early works he even carried a gun. That was Batman then though, Batman NOW, his martial arts repertoire runs the gamut; he does everything from grappling martial arts, to Karate, to Kung Fu, to Tai Chi, he does it all. Because he has studied so many styles, what ends up happening is that most writers will say he has developed his own unique style. The character is 6'2 inches tall, and his weight ranges from 220 to 240 lbs depending on the writer. Far as physical development, he has the strength of a top bodybuilder (who can usually bench around 400 lbs), the stamina of an iron man athlete, and the agility of a gymnast. Could a guy as big as Batman do all that acrobatic stuff? Well, pro wrestlers do it all the time, and some of those guys are HUGE. Its not unreasonable, although, as some Batman writers have commented, because of the way Bruce Wayne is built (he's kind of a big man), during his training one of the things he most struggled with, was the development of agility. Batman emphasizes agility training more than anything, because given his body's size its his biggest weakness, and being one of those "turn a weakness into a strength people," he has trained so obsessively, that, while not as agile as the likes of catwoman, he can still keep up with her and hold his own. One of the things crooks in the Batman fiction find most frightening about the character, is his agility; he's 6'2 and 230 lbs, but he moves like a 5'2 and 120 lb gymnast. Actually, even faster than that; its part of the character's mistique and according to writers, that agility, given his size, almost makes it seem like he isn't even human.
The idea, of an agile large man, if you think about it carefully, agile like Batman, IS somewhat frightening. I need to point out, that Batman suffers from mental illness; he never got over the trauma of the death of his parents, its what drives him on, he suffers obsessive complusive disorder, if I had to name his mental illness. Only an obsessive compulsive man, would train so obsessesively, they would overcome their genetic limits regarding their agility. A small man is limited by muscle size, how much strength he can generate, however when a small man can train himself to bench press 400 lbs, that scares the hell out of people. A big man's genetic handicap, is lack of agility for obvious reasons; a big man simply can't move as well naturally as a smaller one. However, if he trains hard, REALLY hard, once again, it scares the hell out of everyone. One of the hallmarks of Batman, almost from his creation, is the character's incredible agility, which I feel "Gotham Knights" did not emphasize enough. There are gymnists in the real world, who can't move as well as Batman. Only a mentally ill man, with Bruce Wayne's size and build, could accomplish those levels of agility. I'm sure you've seen "The Dark Knight;" even his classic arch rival the Joker said it "you're as crazy as we are." The difference between Batman's mental illness though, and the criminals he fights, is that Batman has chaneled it in an altruistic manner, whereas the dangerous psychopaths who are his enemies, live in their own world. Personally I respect D.C. comics; whereas Marvel won't go near white collar crime, some of the most despicable villains in the DC universe range from street thugs, to white collar corporate criminals (e.g. Lex Luthor), and even, movie celebrities (Clayface). Marvel, has a tendency to use made up bad guys, completely made up, however DC often draws is inspiration from real world villains. Rumors persist for example that Lex Luthor was inspired by Howard Hughes, it was either him or some other Tycoon. (this is a more reputable source). So Yes, Batman basically a Mutant in HU Terms with Natural combat ability ( doesn't matter what it is, He'll know it.).

>>> In case you haven't figured it out >>> Batman is not human. his origin story matches that of mutation, and his just happened to be in powers of deduction and martial arts. he's not a mutant ala " i have x ray vision and gills" but in the " I have superhuman abilities that no Mortal Man may have"

Also note, Vandal Savage is given incredibly Low attributes in the Old MEGS system, despite all the heinously evil complicated plots he's actually commited in the post 80s continuity.

Umm.. no. Not just no, not just HELL NO, but more of a "WTF ARE YOU THINKING?!?!" kind of no. He is not BEYOND "mortal man". He is PEAK for a human, yes. IQ- REALLY high (23ish. He's not Stark level smart) ME- HIGH, but not insanely so. Enough he failed the save vs insanity when witnessing the death of his parents (although, he WAS a kid) (probably 18ish) MA- eh, so-so. Most people don't trust the rich guy, but he's always hiding part of himself away, and keeping people at arms length (10ish) PS- High, but because of training (IE, physical skill selection) (25ish) PE- REALLY high, Because of training, and the abuse he's purposely put himself through (25ish) PP- Pretty high, because of training (20ish) PB- depends on what era, and which version. Typically... (17ish) SPD- varies, but usually high (16ish) He's an Olympic class athlete, in multiple categories. There's nothing that "no mortal man may have". He's damned awesome, but, in every category, there are mortal men who are superior. And he usually uses his COMBINED talents to defeat them

Maybe. At the same time, I'd say a lot of his intimidate isn't from HIM per se. More of from the legend, as well as from situational and gear influence.
After all, he's normally the definition of the "the war is won before the first battle is fought". The fear of the LEGEND of the Bat is what typically makes people curl up in a ball, and whimper.

Sure. He scared them by beating the shyt out of others like them. I have a picture that sums it up brilliantly.. 208391272_af04dc379b_o.jpe (68.91 KB) This image pretty much sums it all up.

I'm refering to all the Batlore on batman. He is a mutant. he has mastered 127 styles of combat in... 10 years abroad. Ie. he picks it up instantly and is able to perform any martial art move you can think of. This describes natural combat ability. doesn't matter what planet he's on, what future he's in, you do it in front of him, he's already figured it out. IE. MUTANT. When Batman can Reverse Engineer Supertech like brainiac's exobytes, Yes. hes a mutant. but then DC universe is FULL of super genius Mutants. One of the latest Retcons in Marvel also makes Iron man a Genetically Altered "Mutant" designed to Uplift a species. And he does so.
So yes, Super genius levels of intelligence = Mutation. MUTANT.

Batman is a mutie cutie. Especially if you go with the "Batman is the best person alive ever Ad hominem He beats everyone because he's batman".. If you go with logical reasoning going after what you might expect a human being to do, and what is "Said" of batman. Batman is not human. I don't care what kind of bullshit he says, but normal people don't turn into batman because he had training from Ninja Asssasins, Outarrows the Green Arrow, outfights Shang Chi, etc etc. The powers that be in the DC comicuniverse allow anyone with a Name to do impossible things and in short, they stretch what a mutant or a human is because DC won't use mutant in the marvel sense at all. if you want to stick to Batman is a human idea, you have to Discredit all the appearances of batman when he does something stupid and Defeats people several times more impossible then he is. You have to Act as if that never happened. IF you want to include all the things batman has done into his portfolio like a fanboy, he is a mutant. in short, You have to stick to very narrow versions of batman such as his original 1940s Appearances , or the Batman/Batman And robin Edition, The Dark knight batman, Or One of the various Alternate Batmans. Justice League batman (esp in the rebooted universe) is so over the top superhuman in mental abilities, No one ever considers him " human ".
Also to note: In Every Edition of DC universe RPG. Batman's Dexterity attributes are Above Human Maximum. SUPERHUMAN = MUTANT.

How about the fact that DC says he isn't a mutant? Or the fact that every writer that has ever written for the series says that? Oh wait I know how about that you have an opinion that is wrong? Sorry the comic and ever comic that has batman has him as a plain human? Come on knock this hackneyed smart ass act you are being a troll and at that with comic books something I am beginning to think you have never looked at.

they stretch what a mutant or a human is because DC won't use mutant in the marvel sense at all. Actually, the definition of mutant would more closely match the Marvel version- not necessarily with super powers and crap, but with the simple fact of what a mutation IS: 1 : a significant and basic alteration : change 2 : umlaut << a : the change of a vowel (as \ü\ to \ē\ in goose, geese) that is caused by partial assimilation to a succeeding sound or that occurs as a reflex of the former presence of a succeeding sound which has been lost or altered b : a vowel resulting from such partial assimilation >> 3 a : a relatively permanent change in hereditary material involving either a physical change in chromosome relations or a biochemical change in the codons that make up genes; also : the process of producing a mutation b : an individual, strain, or trait resulting from mutation Now, if you'd like to argue it, *I* am a mutant. My eyes contain multiple colors, and can change color. If you want to argue those terms, unless we can get Batmans DNA under a microscope, nobody will ever know if he has a genetic mutation or not. If you want to argue it on the "he's a super because he's a mutant" level, then you're an idjit. And let's get something straight, NOW, before you continue to make me want to slam your head into a brick wall to get rid of my headache- wikipedia, and various wiki's are NOT valid source material. They are open for just about anyone to edit. If you want to say something like "On Jaymz's wikia, he does THIS", that's one thing. But to grab from the general open-world ones? NO. Just NO. I know, in the modern day, everyone seems to think "oh, I can get that info from wikipedia!". False. More than once, people have been known to go in to various wiki's, and post BS stuff. In fact, I know of a PROFESSOR who did it, because he knew for a fact that students were using it as a source. So he went in, made stuff up, and when it showed up in their papers, he failed them.

Yilbber - I have asked you before....and you should see it by now, if you make claims, post the links to back up these things. Opinion is just that.
Others - As I asked in the Fear the Reaper thread, let's tone it down a little. We are adults after all.
Damian - Yeah you finally convinced me that Natural Genius is a good fit with him. I am leaning to maybe using Ancient master as well instead of Dedicated Martial Artist as well but not fully convinced on that one.

It's A reinterpretation. If you want to Call him human, You'd be lying as to what a human is capable of. for example: www.writeups.org/fiche.php?id=214 is a 1940s' BATMAN in MEGS. the attributes and skills are in the Realistic Range of 1-10 human characters. www.writeups.org/fiche.php?id=4421 Here's batman as Batman Post Million.. this one has superhuman attributes and technology. as for the 1st gen Megs, they fill his stat block with 10s and 12s except for his phyiscal which was 10dex 5 str 6 body and his martial arts being a 15 Meaning, His skill is so high, he can perform the equivalent feats of marvel Ranks of "Unearthly". Which means, He'd always get the drop on peter parker, Everyone's favorite spiderman, and he could land blows on Spider Girl, and break Wolverine's Adamantium Claws with his kungfu. If you want to call that human. ... You are lying to yourself. And, by the numbers. he could Go before the FLASH could and beat him up. Even while he was in the speed force.

Shut the fuck up! Your are a fucking moron, you know that right? I have said this a few times but I guess I need to be more blunt, I have over 100 batman comics! The comics don't support you! Use the source douch face or shut the fuck up! I swear to Odin's missing eye I will start quoting the comics just to shut your trolling retarded half brain dead ass up! If all you can do is this mindless dribble you need to stop posting.
Sorry jaymz I can take some idiot talking comics with his only opinion being backed by a bunk rpg. The source of which is the comics and not one batman comic says he is a mutant. Hell batman doesn't even fit the definition of mutant. The yibbering troll can't even use the term correctly!
