It's interesting. I think the main problem that it'll face is that when people read/watch something for Batman, they want.... Batman. In this Bruce is about 10, and isn't going to even remotely be batman for decades.
I personally like the 'prequel' nature of it. Though some of the ages seem a little suspect. It's cool. I like the visuals they're giving of Gotham itself.
I do think they could have gotten a prettier Selena.

Episode is done... good premise for a cop drama. biggest problem it is going to face? stuffing too many "easter eggs" into an episode is going to lessen the impact of the big reveals when they come.

Not being a comic book lover, this just came across as weak... it depends entirely too much on Easter Eggs and the audience being familiar with Batman lore. It couldn't stand on its own as a story.

I see those Easter eggs as a bonus and not needed really for the story. If anything this seems to be Jim Gordon's story.

I agree with Jaymz. The first few episodes are going to have a lot of exposition in them. They have to tell and show you whom everyone is, so they can set the stage. Then they can get more chill about it. It -does- seem like Jim's story and I'm ok with that. The 'easter eggs' aren't really that. They're right there for everyone to see. It's not like they're hiding the story.
I love the little details. Like the holding cell in the prescient, having bars with spikes at the top. Not little decrotive spikes. Nice wicked looking spikes. Almost 'Yeah try and stick your head through here. You'll add a hole' spikes. It's subtil but if you see it it adds a ton of flavor. I love the dark run down industrialized views of Gotham. It's got kooky villains (Which Batman ALWAYS had) but they fit the setting. Nice and dark.
It's growing on me. If they keep it as Jim's story and don't try and make it too much "Batman-boy wonder" Then it'll be good. If they start teaching Bruce Ninja skills at 10years old, I'll bail fast.

I was a fan of Harvey Bullock from watching the Batman animated series. I was really happy to hear they would be using him.

The show is still holding me. I'm digging the setting, and seeing Gordon mature and come into his own. I also like Harvey. Seeing the Penguin forming the base of his own criminal empire is fun. It's a bit obscure but in many batman books Penguin actually still runs an underworld empire and actually helps Batman from time to time with stuff.

Not only that but he has "legitimate" businesses as well.
I also like how they not only have Gordon maturing but the effect he is starting to have on some of the cops around him like Bullock and the Captain, not to mention having Montoya on his side now.

Yeah, his relationship with Bullock is great. Bullock having "been" Jim, but having been beat down over the years to his current corrupt state, but sees in Jim what he 'used' to be, and what he could be 'again'. That's awesome.

I also share this hope. I'm enjoying it. It's not.... rushed. It doesn't feel like they're trying to cram everything in all at once just to hold viewers. Used to be shows could get a season or two to get their legs under them. Now days if they're not awesome in 1-3 episodes they cancle them. It's why we get 20 new shows every year

The first few episodes almost pushed me away. They were trying too hard.
Now, Im into it. Im getting tired of the Riddler bit with Nigma, but otherwise, not bad.

I have not watched a single episode. I am very picky with Batman stuff, being a long time fan, and don't often like "rewrites" (I won't get into much of the Marvel stuff out there right now).
I don't like the idea of this series...the whole "Year One - Dark Knight" mash up. I don't like the premise, since best case scenario Bruce Wayne literally disappears during his teenage years...and no one does the math... Also, according to Year One, Gordon shows up around the time proto-Batman starts his thing.
As well, many of the character histories and timelines have been altered just to fit into this world they are creating (Selina Kyle and Ed Nigma, to name just two). Don't care for that.
I don't really agree with much of the casting. Not a single person in the cast makes me want to watch it even to see them.
I had interest in it for like a day. Then I went online and saw what it was about. After a few episodes had aired, I looked into it further and was glad I had not watched it.

I rather like it. I like the build up. And they don't actually use Bruce too terribly much. Which I'd worried about at the start. if they had a 11 or 12 year old NINJA KID BATMAN it'd have been crappy, but they don't. You see him. It's not like you forget about him, but the show isn't "ABOUT" Bruce. It's about -GOTHAM- if anything Gordon is by far the lead.

The Penguin sure knows how to manipulate the people around him. The poor captains face when she saw the arm was something.

All caught up now. Really liking how it's maintaining the dark element, with 'over the top' villains. Which is what Batman always had. The Penguin is every bit the definition of Survivor. His scene with the Riddler, shows that he's starting to mature a bit out of his sniveling state and starting to embrace his power. Love the slow burn on Nigma too. You can just see each little bit that's chipping away. When he snaps it's going to be spectacular. Still think they need a hotter Catwoman. The girl they have for her has eyes set about 6 inches apart on her head. She just looks odd as hell. I can't say how much I love the new ME. She'd cut her hair Ceaser short in "V" and still had it short in homeland and looked horrible. Her hair's grown back out now and she's hot again. What a WORLD of difference a hair cut can sometimes make!
