I just got done watching this amazing series. It's a really great show and underrated. What I wouldn't give to have mecha from that show at 1/285. Now I wish I could speak Japanese so I could understand what his role was in the ps3 game macross 30.

I will agree the Macross 7 had potential. I cannot agree however that the series was amazing....I wanted to kill Basara in pretty much every single episode. The guy was a DICK. LOL
Had the series not dragged on for 40+ episodes and had run the standard 25 or so it likely would have been so much better.....

Most folks sort of ruin it by going into it with the Macross Plus SERIOUS BUSINESS mindset. The show being underrated? I don't know about that... it did great in Japan, to the extent that they're still releasing new Fire Bomber albums, and it got more direct sequels, spinoffs, and side story features than any other Macross except maybe Frontier. Basara's role in 30 is actually pretty small... mostly just him being his D7 and later space hobo self. (Per the official timeline, by 2060 he still hasn't come back to City 7...) He shows up once or twice to blast the enemy with spiritia, including in that last battle against a Protoculture biomecha and Colonel Todo, but that's it, really... As a side note, the Macross 7 VFs (along with those of every other series) are available in 1:250 scale... it ain't a perfect fit, but it does get close.

I remember watching Macross 7 at Anime Cincinnati (home club for Psycho KORps, that worked with Central Anime to put together the most common fansubs for Macross 7). When we got to the episode that ended with Basara getting drained, and the next episode preview being named "Basara Dies" we cheered, only to boo and hiss when they managed to resuscitate him the next episode... That said, yeah, it's a fun series, but I could have done with a better ending, and especially could have done without Mylene getting cold feet about her engagement to Gamlin. Now, if only there'd been a real, full song, recording released of Mylene's version of "Light the Light".

Did bandai finally release them in the other modes? I have some of the 1/250 fighters and plan on using them in RRT. Guys you can't watch the show with a serious mind set. You've gotta go in with the mind set you'd have while watching inuyasha or some other silly anime series. It's a silly show with some cool 80's inspired rock music. Don't get me wrong I was annoyed the first couple episodes till I realized its a silly macross story. Once you your in on the joke it's a fun show to watch. Macross frontier is a more serious version of M7.

Maybe they can produce the other modes in 1/250. Eh... I doubt they would, in all honesty. Robotech is so niche and sells at such small volumes that the RPG Tactics game isn't likely to be noticed outside Studio Nue and Big West's legal staff, who will keep a close eye on it so the game doesn't step on any toes. I'm not much of a model/toy collector, but a battroid and GERWALK sequel to the 1:250 collection wouldn't hurt my feelings any. I'm given to understand that tabletop games and traditional pen-and-paper RPGs are similarly extremely niche in their appeal and market penetration in Japan. That's supposedly more video game and TCG territory. Macross has flirted with both, but generally had a great deal more success with the video games.

I'd love to see the other modes in 1/250. Wish I still had battlecry an my ps2. Glad I have macross 30 for ps3. Bleh... Robotech: Battlecry was weaksauce IMO. Then again, my take on it is probably tainted by having played Macross VF-X, VF-X2, and Macross M3 before I played Battlecry. Still got my copy kicking around for Gamecube, though I haven't played it since Striker1 and I discovered one weekend years back that it had several game-bricking bugs relating to VS mode and FAST packs. Macross 30... I'm still working at. I've gone all the way through it once, and now I'm trying for 100% completion on the VFs. All the Level 3 blueprints are EXPENSIVE! If Bandai ever did put out an addendum to the 1:250 collection for Battroid and GERWALK modes, smart money says that you'd probably find the same thing will happen that happened to the Robotech RPG. You'd have as many, if not more, people buying it to use it as a Macross conversion's starting point as you would buying it to use it for Robotech.

Eh... honestly, to me it's a bit of a stretch to classify Basara as a person. When you think of what makes a character a character, it's that they grow, develop, and learn in the course of the story. Basara never really does any of that in Macross 7. He's just sort of there... he's the plot device that forces everyone around him to change, without actually being affected himself. He's the catalyst in the series that forces the other characters to change, but he's as stubbornly static as a rock. He's like what you'd get in a hypothetical baby had by Osaka from Azumanga Daioh and Lynn Kaifun from the original Macross... a pointlessly stubborn, monumentally self-absorbed prima donna cloud cuckoolander. He's at his best when he's NOT talking. For me, it was a bit disheartening to realize that the show's love triangle wasn't really Basara x Mylene x Gamlin... it was Basara who was being competed over, and Mylene eventually loses the love triangle to an inanimate object (Basara's guitar).
