I really didn't like the Dark Nest books, but by and large do like the NJO books. The Dark Nest.... (Spoilers) Just absent mindedly taking over the mind of almost an entire generation of Jedi knights with out half trying, pissed me off. Yeah Pheromones are a thing but they're not brainwashing, much less able to brainwash a jedi. Much less a group of them. Meh. Just didn't like that at all.

I don't get the long held fascination with putting Jedi into Rifts. I just don't see a reason to add another OCC to that world.

Then why read the thread or comment?
People convert most anything to Rifts. I've seen sailor moon converted to rifts. There's a guy I talk to a few times a week, that made a anthro my little pony, unicorn zapper (and recently. not like years in the past. I'm talking a few months ago)
People like Jedi. People like Rifts. Rifts is multiversal game where 'anything' can come through a rift. So people pull in what they like. From Jedi to 1920s detectives. Mutant Turtles to super heroes.
The reason that people add another OOC to the world, is that they want to play the jedi and have fun.
Hell in the rifts game here, I'm playing a female Yautja. A "Predator". If she dies, I have a mutant raccoon Robot pilot in the wings, totally ready to step in.
Rifts is one of the games, that if you're not STUPID about it, you can play almost anything, and it can 'fit'.

Honestly, I don't see any reason NOT to... the Jedi are not exactly stand-out of game-breaking characters (unless you deal with the whole unnecessarily chatty ghost thing), so their fairly bland mixture of swordsmanship and low-level magic/psionics makes them fairly easy to adapt... and Star Wars is a very popular setting, and not one that would have a great deal in the way of compatibility issues with RIFTS. RIFTS is, by definition, a crossover RPG.

Oh I understand how it could be done. I get it with Rifts being a crossover RPG.
I don't understand the fascination. There are, IMHO, way cooler options already in existence.

Well. It's ok to have an opinion like that Writer'sblock. Even if it's wrong. *Grins*

Star Wars is really REALLY popular... therein lies the attraction for Star Wars fans who want to RP a mystic space wizard with a laser sword. It's a setting everyone is familiar with and so it's an easy sell for the GM too.

Actually....if you were to go by the now non canon novels (though they were in fact canon for the last 20+ years) Jedi can indeed be very game breaking if allowed to do the things the ones in the novels could.

Actually....if you were to go by the now non canon novels (though they were in fact canon for the last 20+ years) Jedi can indeed be very game breaking if allowed to do the things the ones in the novels could. You make a fair point... but the Jedi most people are going to be familiar with the much-less-impressive Jedi of the movies and the old RPG, neither of which are really what you'd call game-breakers. The average light-sider's bag of Force tricks doesn't extend much farther than a low-level persuasion spell/charisma buff, some relatively modest telekinesis, and a dash of precognition. Dark-siders get all that plus a low level lightning spell. After all, they're mostly just ordinary schmucks without any serious performance enhancement. I can think of way worse game-breakers than that without even leaving the "laser sword space ninja wizard" category... and just writing that last bit in complete seriousness has me smiling.

Ehhhh. It depends on what you mean by 'most people.'
If you mean it in the classic sense of the word. "Most people" say, in America or Canada that might be right.
But in our smaller demographic, of Role Players... I'm not sure that's true. I'm going to go on a limb and guess that "Most Role Players" Have read some if not a number of the Star Wars EU stuff. It's just... right in the middle of our Geek Culture

Yeah, that'd be the sense that I intended it in. Unless you're familiar with what used to be the Star Wars expanded universe... and only very specific parts of that... the Jedi and Sith don't really come across as extravagantly powerful. Yeah, the laser swords are dead choppy, and a bit of telekinetic-aided acrobatics is all to the good, but the majority of force users don't seem to be anywhere close to the "clearing a whole hallway full of mooks with a cough" level of borderline-sue characters like that Starkiller bloke from that one video game. The prequel trilogy certainly didn't do the Jedi any favors... Anakin "Force Jesus" Skywalker didn't seem to be all that powerful compared to regular Jedi like Obi-Wan, and some of the Jedi's finest masters got schooled by a geriatric villain in a dress (who they didn't realize was an evil douche despite him practically dancing around wearing a sandwich board that read "YO! SITH LORD IN THE HOUSE SENATE!"... clearly they roll snakeeyes for spot checks).

Except that in this case their is an ability to actually hide your force ability which Palpatine did.

Yep. Just like Yoda does later when he goes to Dagoba. He lives close to the cave with all the dark side in it, to cloak himself from detection.

Except that in this case their is an ability to actually hide your force ability which Palpatine did. True, but he still did such a remarkable job of being obviously evil that even the Jedi eventually picked up on it... Not really a game-breaking power, hiding your psionic abilities...

Ehh... how often do you hang out with your state Governor? Or the President of your country? Palpy was the rep for an entire planet in the Galactic Senate. I'm thinking the Jedi didn't co-chill with him, or get beers after work or anything. In public he put on the good face. In private he was a douche bag.

Yeah, I see where you're going with that... though my answer would definitely NOT be representative of 99.99% of Michiganders. Probably a false parallel though... since the Jedi Council weren't just Joe Schmoes one the street, but rather were essentially THE peacekeeping force of the Republic until they "found" the Grand Army. So it'd be more like "how often do senior members of the military or police talk to local or national leaders", which is actually pretty often. With their overall set of abilities and weapon (singular), it's unlikely that Jedi would even stand out among the population of RIFTS Earth... the most eye-catching thing is likely to be their monastic robes rather than their abilities.

Wilks sells a "Laser sword"
It's sort of a signature weapon of my char's. If it's possible, they have one. Usually inplace of the vibroblades that many if not most men at arms start with, or I'll ask the GM to trade one of my weapon selections for one or use starting money etc.
