I know they were just sent out yesterday, but when someone gets it, I'd love an in hand review.
So far I have all the Dead Reign books, and while the system needs a bit of modification to work properly, the books are good for data mining and such. I'm curious about the new splat book.

Me too, especially since I am curious if anymore of MY stuff was used.

Pretty sure Matthew Clements wrote this one? Not that, that would stop Kevin from using your stuff. I just don't think Clements had access to it to use it.
He writes pretty good stuff on his own too. Northern Gun is awesome.

No your right Clements wrote it. I just know bits and pieces of stuff I've worked on has shown up in other books. Just curiosity on my part.

I hope nothing you wrote appears in a book without you name on it Josh, sadly, from the guys at 4chan.. I mean rpg.net, Its happened to some people who sent in Rifter contributions, only to see their work appear in another book with Kevin's name on it... Thou I've heard those accusations levied against almost every RPG company...

Out of curiosity, did you write stuff for the Reapers that has a possibility of appearing in the book?

Thou I've heard those accusations levied against almost every RPG company... Well, to a certain degree, I take a lot of those with not just a grain, but an entire shaker's worth of salt. I know one guy who swore up and down that he had submitted the idea for a massive underground dungeon that kept changing, that was controlled by an insane archmage, and then POOF, a couple of months later Halastar Blackcloak showed up with Undermountain. But, how many GMs had similar ideas? I mean, I thought about it before I'd ever heard of Forgotten Realms. Sometimes the "stolen" ideas are just ideas that multiple people have, and it's a coincidence. Now, is that to say that other times it's NOT theft? No. I full-heartedly believe that there are multiple occassions of "if I change this line here, and those words there, I can get away with saying it's all MY idea..."

There are plenty of times its a an Idea form the collective unconscious that finds its way into multiple peoples heads around the same time. it doesn't happens all the time, but there are enough cases of it happening in the world to warrant validity to it... and if a few Paragraphs or explicit Idea that Josh Submitted for Dead Reign showed up in a book by Palladium w/o his name in the credits, I wouldn't be surprised.. Kevin's treatment of Josh and Josh on the DR project reminds me of Ned Beatty in Deliverance. I mean some of the "Original" work in the New Robotech rpg reads nearly word for word from some fan creations, just a few minor tweaks to not be a direct rip off.

Yeah, and of certain people it's DEFINITELY more believable than with others... however, with PB's little disclaimer about anything submitted becomes their property... well, it's arguable and well... disheartening

I created the Reapers. Although they were not so ... nice in the original version.

Got a copy myself in a grab bag. I'll read through it and toss up a review for folks.
Off the bat I flipped through it. Looks interesting. Not sure how good yet.
Interesting side note... it smells funny. Not 'Undead' funny, but like all the dark black printed pics maybe have a lot of ink in there? It's sort of a strong smell in such a small book. My wife noticed it on the couch beside me.

lol. Eberron was modified off a submission i sent to WOTC modified to fit traditional Dnd Races. My version was more centered on relics, and exotic geographies,Similar in style of Gemworld, Eberron has Exotic relics turned into races. WOTC is a bunch of talentless hacks at some point.

You're claiming that you created Eberron and it was modified off a submission you sent in?

So... you or a guy who was known in the game industry, and was an author. Out of the 10K+ entries into the contest, do you think just MAYBE that some of those things were just close enough to your "ideas" that it was thought of by someone else? Since you know, some of the key ideas out of eberron are things that had been happening in home games anyway? I mean, suuure.. NOBODY wanted to play a sentient golem before 2004, right? /sarcasm

I'm saying they took other submissions, gave them to their approved people, and made eberron. Mind you I only Ever did a treatise. It never got beyond that. However, they did bring in some gem world elements to the setting.

My setting concept didn't include golems, it was more Kaiju artifacts in the wastelands.

So, they did something kinda like what you submitted?
Yeah, not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but of all the submissions and what not, chances are most people could say it had 'aspects' of their stuff. Right?

WOTC basically dumped everyone and only considered published freelancers and those within their already existing NDA'd Playtester groups. IE the contest being opened to the public was a sham.

It was one of their admissions with one of the eberron editors that pretty much admitted is what they did. They had Receved tens of thousands of entries while expecting hundreds. the Staff assigned to it basically took a quick look, checked if they knew of them or not, and threw away the rest.

all the semi finalists have published books before or articles in one form of another already known by WOTC.

So the answer is no, you have no real proof. I can't take your word as proof, I need sold facts presented before me that I can indecently verify. As it stands you are doing one of two things; telling the truth (most likely this is not true) or you are blowing smoke up peoples asses and if I wanted smoke blowen up my ass I would go get a pack of Marlboros and a garden hose.

The day I take Kevin S at his word on book releases, is the day AFTER I've been cremated. Or maybe, the day he works for me, because I bought PB.

Well... it was modified off of a submission that he sent in. That the judges never even looked at because he wasn't an established writer that WotC knew of.
Makes perfect sense to me. /sarcasm

this has nothing to do with WHAT I sent... but WOTC Lying to the public and limiting selections to people they Knew who could finish product.
i already mentioned that Eberron (Thematically) was a rip off of what i intended my setting to be like, but More in common with Gem world, and the way Eberron is setup, is more of an inversion of what I intended.

Or maybe 99% of the submissions were from people who THOUGHT they wrote total awesomesauce, and instead wrote crap (or maybe just presented it poorly), while those that were established actually communicated GOOD ideas, in a clear and concise manner?
NAAAHHH.. couldn't be that. MUST be WOTC telling lies to the world.
