www.nerdist.com/2013/12/meet-your-new-wonder-woman-gal-gadot/After months of speculation and weird fan Photoshop mock-ups, the DC Cinematic Universe finally has its Wonder Woman: Gal Gadot. The Israeli actress, who has made a name for herself in the Fast & the Furious series, will star as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince alongside Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck in 2015′s Zack Snyder-directed Batman vs Superman. It’s unknown how large the role will be, but it’s significant in that this is the iconic character’s first feature film incarnation. Originally, it was reported that Gadot was testing for a role believed to be Wonder Woman alongside G.I. Joe: Retaliation‘s Elodie Yung and Olga Kurylenko. Now, thanks to Batman vs. Superman director Zack Snyder, we know who won that Paradise Island throwdown. In a statement presumably made from the window of his new invisible jet, Snyder said, “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

Cute gal, that one... though, having basically zero awareness or interest in American comics, I find myself wondering if this won't be more of the Wonder Woman-as-fetish-fuel nonsense that drove her series since the beginning? Does the cinema really need softcore BDSM?

I think it's just a cameo in the Batman vs Superman movie. Neither the new Batman, nor the new Superman had gratuitous fetish fuel nonsense. So doubtful. Possible, but doubtful.
Both the newer Batman and Superman were pretty Modern/gritty.
(( and for the record, Superman Killed Zod years and years ago in the comics. So people can stop whining.))

It'd be nice to have her as a well-written character with her own series of movies.

I don't like the choice.
She does not say "Amazon Princess" to me. Other than a pretty face, she has nothing "Wonder Woman" about her.

Watch the Fast and Furious movie and her fight scene in there. *Chuckles*

Yeah, well Michelle Rodriguez is awesome in a fight scene too....does not make her appropriate for Wonder Woman any more than Vin Diesel would make a good Bruce Lee.
Wonder Woman is far more than combat and aggression. She is supposed to be an Amazon, and there is more to that than fight scenes.
If combat capable is all they are worried about, their version of Wonder Woman will suck.

So, she's good looking, and she can fight, and she's built like a comic book heroine. What is she missing that says "Amazon' to you?

The fact that she is tiny compared to Wonder Woman. WW was an amazon, and until the recent stuff done of her (where apparently she was exposed to the same "transform into teenager" ray most of the Marvel Universe was) it was clear she was taller and better built than average women...
WW is NOT just a pretty face and an ass kicker.
She has a regal air about her. She is physically impressive...maybe even imposing.
Gadot has none of that. She is attractive, and can do a fight scene. I can name ten women in Hollywood that are covered under that....none of them seem WW to me either.

Wonder Woman isn't Marvel. It's DC

I was not saying she is Marvel. I was saying that lots of the Marvel Universe was hit by "now they draw me like a teenager" rays and WW is currently suffering from a similar condition....
