My friend and I came up with an idea, after discussing the various differences between the various Macross series ( Macross Zero, SDF Macross, Macross DYRL, Macross Plus, Macross II, Macross Frontier), of rolling them all into one "game". We started out with a U.N. Spacy picket fleet of no more than half a dozen ships that encounters one of those seemingly "normal" rogue Zentran fleets roaming the galaxy.
During the fight the picket fleet takes a heavy beating by the Zentran forces which number one Flagship, two Thuverl Salans and several landing craft packed with Zentran and Meltran numbering in the tens of thousands. The picket fleet is forced to fall back to a nearby colony world to reassess their damage and set up a final line of defense as this colony is right in the path of the oncoming fleet.
Upon landing the U.N. Spacy Forces find an old and, currently, unmanned UN Space Forces base that has been empty for several decades. Unfortunately there are no factory facilities to be found and the local colony infrastructure is not geared towards supporting the UN military forces.
Despite this the UN forces begin refurbishing the base using the parts from their badly damaged flagship (Macross II UN Spacy, non-Zentran class, flagship). While scouring the local area for supplies they find that the area near the base has been used as a dumping ground for broken and near un-useable mecha and other junk from some of the colony fleets that have passed this way, including, of all things, three stasis chambers of evident Marduk design as well as a small Marduk micro factory, capable of replicating small scale parts. (It seems that some Marduk ships decided to dump some excess trash here before joining the fray at Earth). These stasis pods contain, of all things. three young Emulator sisters, of differing ages, 28, 20, and 15 respectively. Though clearly confused by their surroundings, they do NOT display the typical reactions expected of Marduk Emulators and, according to their statements, predate the known Marduk fleet by several tens of thousands of years, and actively claim that they are, in fact, of the Protoculture race.
The main character is LCDR Gareth Varn, age 25. A UN Spacy VF pilot of mixed human and Zentran heritage who, due to his having taken the Academy's Xenopschology course, is given the dubious task of being the attaché for the youngest Emulator, named Nymph (her sisters being Titania, 28, and Sylph, 20), whom he nicknames "Hime-sama" due to her behavior.
Hime-sama is, naturally, very confused by her current situation but pitches in with a will despite her complaints about how the local Zentran and other humans (whom she constantly refers to as Marduk) don't respond to her orders and how she is "unaccustomed to such behavior", all the while referring to Gareth as a "brute" and a "lout" for his irreverent attitude towards her. Despite all this, she has no objections when Gareth's Commanding Officer states that not only is he to be her attaché/ guide, she will be living with him, too. Thus leading to their "inevitable" romance, especially as she becomes, effectively, his A.O. (Aerial observer, think "Goose" from Top Gun) during combat flight ops. His original VF-19 damaged beyond repair, he is forced to use an old VF-17 bomber variant found amidst the detritus left behind by the various colony fleets.
