FIRST I want to say thank you to Agod as he is apparently the one who made Kevin realize he doesn't NEED Wayne to posy up his updates and that Rex can do it for him too....
Now onward...
"It has been non-stop action since the Palladium Open House."
as it was before the open house as well.
"Over the holiday weekend I took a little time off, but worked six hours both Saturday and Sunday, and put in a full regular, 10 hour day on Monday. "
Man I work so hard....
" People are pretty excited about the slew of new products"
Not for nothing but the vast majority of those new awesome products are not actually wanted by almost anyone I know...they are nice and all but I, and most others, have zero interest in mouse pads (do people still even use those?), art prints (I know some do but honestly I do not and most people I know want art prints that are significantly larger than what is offered), and T-shirts (they are nice but still) are not what most of us want which is books.....you know the primary reason your business exists?
" There are some exciting things brewing as we have a couple of new companies outside the game industry eye-balling two different Palladium I.P.s "
Why is this, on the heels of the Savage Worlds announcement, make me feel like he is setting up to tell us he is getting out of the business.....probably just me....
"Rex Barkdoll, the gent who designed the Palladium website, has been developing a Rifts® character generator "
Cool but god help him with the MYRIAD of options available to a |rifts Character....I look forward to it.
"Meanwhile, Alex Marciniszyn has been put in charge of scanning the entire Palladium library of books for future release in PDF form."
It's about DAMN time. GOOD. I'll say it again...IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME....
"To insure high quality, Alex is scanning book pages from the original “paste-up” pages/keylines and digitally cleaning them. "
uh wuuuuuuut?
"It’s a time consuming process, but the pages are flawless. "
Um flawless would indicate they don't need digital clean up.....
ok I have to ask....do they not understand that they could just slice the spine of a new book, and scan that? It would be just as "flawless" and likely need a hell of a lot less clean up....not only that they could easily and for a decent price have Kinko's or someone do all the scanning in high res for a decent price thus not tying up Alex's time in the "time consuming process" since we always hear about how crazy busy they are what with their constant 14-16 hour days. They always seem to go the most difficult route to do anything when there are better simpler and more efficient ways to do things...
My BIGGER question is why hasn't every book prior to 2005 (about when they switched to laying out books digitally) already been digitally scanned for ease of reprint and access? Would this not be a no brainer for a publisher?
Again though this is CERTAINLY AN EXCELLENT STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION FINALLY. They will get money from me for some of these even though I have my own already (made them myself)
"Will Palladium offer PDFs of new releases when they release print titles? We haven’t decided yet, but we’re considering it."
This.....I actually think a 6-12 month window on releasing new books is completely acceptable and the way to go. It allows them to get the bulk of their hard copy sales in THEN they can release the PDF for those that want the book too but can't afford or do not have the space for hardcopies. Makes everyone happy. Maybe a discount for those who buy a hard copy too but not necessary.
"Do not forget, Palladium has more than 100 PDF titles on DriveThruRPG.comright now! "
Yeah we know.....and it's why we have been constantly saying "GIVE US MORE SINCE THOSE ARE OLD, OUTDATED, AND/OR OUT OF PRINT"
"I’m also working on two titles that would be released in PDF form only(?)"
GOOD. this is something else I've been harping on for years MORE online/digital content. GOOD GOOD GOOD.
"Palladium has been planning and working on all these things (and more) for some time now."
You always are.
"However, we didn’t want to reveal every detail of all our plans nor release an estimated start date."
You do know you can say things you are working on without details or dates right? You know you CONSTANTLY give dates all on your own for book releases right? Right?
" For one, there are some people who become angry and complain when a project is delayed, rescheduled or suspended. "
Actually that is only usually when you missed your own self imposed release date on a book for the 6th or 12th or 15th time....delays and such are expected ....unless you know, you put dates to them.....which you do.....on your own.......all the time.
"Other times we may not want our competition to know what we’re up to."
This may come as a shock Kevin but I cannot recall the last time you guys were working on anything that was "new", "out of the box", "innovative" or otherwise that hasn't already been tried or done by damn near the entirety of your industry. I would not be too concerned about what your competition may find out because, and I honestly say this sadly, they certainly are not concerned about you
"Happy Retirement Mister Bond!"
NO idea who he is but hey happy retirement man (y)
Until next week.....
