Oh I can back him up on much of it. NMI is a choirboy compared to a couple of mods on the Robotech.com forums...and alot of the others stuff I have read about elsewhere.

But I fully admit to my ignorance of the issue. If all that stuff did happen as you said, you're right that it's crazier than fiction. As it sounds really crazy. Unfortunately, the list of people who can verify some or all of what I've just told you is quite extensive. Jaymz has already corroborated some of it. Still, if you enjoy Robotech that's your own business and nobody should tell you it's wrong to. When I say Robotech is a blight on the anime industry, I'm looking at all the ways their behavior impacts, and reflects poorly upon, the industry. Things like their lack of respect for the original authors, their refusal to accept that the industry has changed, their quite appalling treatment of their distributors, the bootleg quality of their products, their original cavalier attitude towards copyright, the legally dubious efforts to "protect" Robotech by making the franchise into a roadblock for the iconic series it was originally supposed to be promoting, the insulting and condescending treatment of their fans, the personal misbehavior of those responsible for the franchise's upkeep, and the frankly appalling attempt to surf Macek's coffin to half a mil in donation money because their own management thinks developing Robotech further is a waste of money. They'd have to try pretty hard to be a WORSE example. Of course, as they said in Jurassic Park... "Nature... um... finds a way".

*shrugs* I don't really worry about what others think. If I like something I like it. I have fond memories of watching it as a child. Transforming robots/jets driven by humans was awesome. Then when I started playing RPGS, Robotech came after TMNT, which was also awesome.
I didn't get into the politics or behind the scenes stuff. Nor have I ever been an "Anime Fan". Robotech is about as far into Anime as I ever chose to go and it worked fine for me.

Ah, that would definitely explain why most of this was news to you. If you've had no interest in Robotech beyond the RPG and perhaps the "original" series, that'd explain why you'd be unaware of details that more serious Robotech fans, as well as Macross, Southern Cross, MOSPEADA, Transformers, BattleTech/MechWarrior, and anime hobbyists have long since accepted as (unpleasant) realities of having Harmony Gold involved in their hobby, however peripherally.

Well I liked the orignal. I liked the Southern Cross RPG and cartoon, an liked Transformers. *shrugs* Just never big into Anime. I knew plenty of people that lost their shit over it. To me it was just a different style of cartoon.
That's not a dig or insult. I like cartoons and have planed many rpgs. I just didn't go totally apeshit over it like it was the second coming.
