Authentic looking terrain? Nothing that comes to mind... I'm sure everyone has used books, cans or boxes from time to time in other games though...

What kinds of typical household items are good for terrain? Triscuits boxes are about the right size that, with some spraypaint or other means, they can be used singly or in pairs to form buildings at RRT's scale. Styrofoam or any kind of heavy packing foam material is GREAT for sculpting terrain. Especially that squooshy foam that they use to pack computers and stuff. Cut that stuff with a sharp hobby knife or scissors, and you can make all manner of hills that just need a coating of texture paint or some flock. Cotton balls can be painted up and glued to spare bases or any miscellaneous debris to make smoke banks and wreckage...
