Don't forget the set up for a hiatus due illness in the near future.

I wanna write a book called how not to run a publishing company. Then I will just use Kevin as my example.

He'd make a lot more headway on these books if he didn't spend two hours a day drafting mini-updates and murmurs.

Probably too much time. I sold off all of my Rifts books years ago, and even I'm kinda getting pissed about the NG2 delays since it means other books that would be written and edited by him are also going to be further pushed back.

I sold off all of my Rifts books years ago, and even I'm kinda getting pissed about the NG2 delays since it means other books that would be written and edited by him are also going to be further pushed back. His unpleasant habit of wasting large amounts of time giving everyone and their dog a status update on a project that's already terminally behind schedule just leaves me wondering if the inspiration for his management style is the pointy-haired boss from Dilbert. The hours he's wasted writing these murmurs and mini-updates to tell us all how very hard he's working and what he's working so hard on would be a LOT better spent actually working on those projects he keeps updating us on. He's so eager to convince us all that he's actually working that he's spending all his time convincing and not actually working.

I don't think the updates take too long. I could knock out most of the ones Kevin writes in 5 minutes or less. No huge thing. Granted I'm a fast typer but Kevin's a professional writer. No huge investment in time there at all.
What does concern me is the seemingly large swaths of time watching/stalking birds and squirrels that approaches uncanny levels. Sure. I glance out the window a few times a day. I don't include bird and rodent updates into a company news letter week after week.

I glance out the window a few times a day. I don't include bird and rodent updates into a company news letter week after week. Eh... for all Kevin's professional status as a writer, he seems to be pretty rubbish at it. His work is consistently lacking in consistency (and that's hilariously tragic), of quality ranging from "poor" to "indifferent", and often shot through with internal contradiction on a paragraph by paragraph basis. Combine that with his many cases of "did not do research" and "did not proofread anything", and the frequent occurrence him somehow screwing up alphabetical order, and he stands as a rare non-musical example of the painful truth that you can be a professional at something without being any damn good at it. Take, for instance, this murmur. It's clearly written with the intent to show us "Oh, I am working SO hard, guys! Look at how hard I work, because I'm making all this unverifiable headway on behind-schedule projects!", yet it's peppered with his personal angst and the tendency you've noted to stalk the local wildlife with unnecessary vigor. (On the wildlife front, maybe I should catch that Cooper's Hawk that lives in the tree in my backyard and export it to Palladium's HQ... that would cut down on the birds and squirrels he's so intent on watching with brutal efficiency. Think I saw that bastard eating a cat the other day.)

Mike - don;t forget the penchant of the palladium crew to every plague that is going around on a near monthly basis... Maybe I should add something to my "If I owned Palladium" post: "Mandatory immunizations, and get these f*ckers some proper health insurance."
