My specific knowledge is up to CWC so anything from after that will require me to read a bit. for example, Jogging. Forced march, Running, Athletics and Jogging? It helps me to understand how a skill or rule came to be and if I need or can get away with adding Thaibow or Jazzersize.

oh well some skills are from rifters. example, the running skill was broken down into two separate skills Springing and Jogging. There were others too. I thought the skill list listed where the skills were from if not in a core book?
In that regard though I am working on my own overarching skill compilation to replace the one in that link above.

I think anyone that works with PB for a while wants to recategorise the skills.
really? Running became Sprinting and Jogging? FWIW I had considered Running an overall running training for any distance up to a mile. as distinct from what running was done in Athletics.
If jogging is not recreational under general fitness, how is it different from Athletics. and is it a full skill pick, cause that's some expensive time use. (<=== this was just a vent)
Skills overhauls are not alot of fun. I've gotten to the CBF stage a few times. you know, condenced Military OCCs to include MOS to emulate basic training and so on. then recompartmentalise skills or create specialisations of major skills. assign time frames to learning skills. I have tables in excel of comparisons of OCC skill sets and skill picks and all sort of stuff that just showed that there was no system to it and that balance is arbitrary and fickle.
being nuts, i'm happy to offer help..

well there is also a PE bonus etc. The problem with the general running skill mechanically is the perfect average person taking can now run a 4 minute mile as average is 10 and the average bonus from the running skill is also a 10 giving the average persona 20 or 400m per minute thus a 4 minute mile.

how does PE apply to running at top speed?
and that pesky yards/meters thing drives me nuts.
I calculated, admitidly 2 decades ago, that a Spd of 36 was required to do 100m in 10 seconds. this doe snot account for acceleration in the 1st 30m or the long loping strides out to 80m. the PE calcs always broke down at the pointy end of human endeavour.
that being said, if the average person did a full skill pick of runnign training, i would expect them to be getting close to a 4 minute mile. it's a full skill pick of their time.

The bonus to PE (which the normal running skill gives as well) is for endurance not your spd obviously.
However let me ask you this: Do you think the average Coalition Soldier should be able to run a 4 minute mile, which is a marathon runners pace? World Class sprinters can't and neither should a typical grunt but as per Rifts they can.
A Jogging skill increases your spd over the average person who doesn't jog. I have no issue with increasing the skills an OCC gets and by extension can spend selections on. It takes conscious effort to Jog regularly just as it takes a conscious effort to read up and study on any other subject.

in all of that, PE is more important than Spd. how long you can run at a speed, how you spend your endurance. Sprinters do have a high speed through training built on a natural base, but for the longer distances endurance is key.
so yes, a CS grunt should be able to do the 4 minute mile, if PE allowed. I'm guessing they only need a PE of 16.

IIRC you can rub your SPD in minues = PE. I don't care how well trained you are I highly doubt cs Grunt can run a marathoners pace. Otherwise soldier today (very similar training regimen I would think) would be training and breaking world records.

I'm still not getting something here. the Mean Spd of the CS Soldier is still 19, without elective physical skills.
do yo have a skills list you work from or is it from a particular book? for comparison.

not sure what you mean? if hte average attirbute is 10 and the average roll from running is 10 that a spd of 20 not 19.
regardless, what point are you making? I made no bones about the stuff I have there not being done to RAW standards.

and I got 19 your your CS soldier OCC on your wiki.
I ask not for if it is RAW, I ask because the rule set used puts it into context. anyway, since my last post I have found some of your other stuff on the site.

I got 18 now looking at it. That is 360 metres per minute. It is now a near 5 minute mile. I can live with that.

***EDIT**** change for bad math... Which means everything changes.
That's about a 4.5 minute mile. Give or take. That IS pretty fast for a soldier. With that, I don't know if I'd keep it up for PE in minutes. Honestly, a little better than half that speed is appropriate for most soldiers.
US Army PT standards for the 2 mile run: (male)
Age: Time to Pass: 17-21 15:54 22-26 16:36 27-31 17:00 32-36 17:42 37-41 18:18
It goes on, but you get the idea.

Side note: Those times are to PASS, not to "do well" or be an average or anything. Those are "meet the standards" times

Side note: Those times are to PASS, not to "do well" or be an average or anything. Those are "meet the standards" times so an 8 minute mile. That figures to be roughly a 10 or 11 spd. but that is at a "jog/trot" not a full on gallop/sprint.

No, it's not a full sprint. But, if you're not breathing hard by the end, you weren't giving full effort.
To MAX the 2 mile run..
Age: Time to Pass: 17-21 13:00 22-26 13:00 27-31 13:18 32-36 13:18 37-41 13:36
While people DO max it, it's not really any more common than 1-2 people per company sized unit.
