Just wondering is all... we got any other 40k players lurking in these parts?
If so, what army (or armies) do you run and for how long have you been running 'em?
Myself, I've been running Dark Eldar since the 3rd Edition starter box came out with Dark Eldar and Space Marines, and I picked up Necrons shortly after their first codex dropped. Haven't had the time or opportunity to update either army with the new model ranges, but I've got around 2,500 points worth of either (more if you count stuff I can't field because it'd take me over my org chart's limits).

I have been playing 40K since 2nd edition. I started with Space Marines while my friend took the orks from the starter box. Shortly thereafter I bought an Eldar force and Sisters of Battle. When 3rd came out I split that box, Space Marines for me Dark Eldar for my friend (same one who took the orcs). I am currently working on building a full chapter of Space Marines (almost have 4 full companies, painted more still unpainted). I have also added the Grey Knights to my armies. Have not played in a while, but the last time I did my Chapter beat the Grey Knight forces led by Drago.

I am waiting to get enough money to buy the Tau army of a friend so I can start playing.

Now that's a tall order... made taller by some of the variances in the fluff. Are you going for just the nominal nine hundred line Astartes and the Scout company, or are you also including the ~500 or so others who operate in ancillary support roles like the Librarius and the Techmarines? That's gonna be one heck of an impressive layout regardless. I got into the game when one of my younger brothers bought the 3rd Ed. starter box. He wanted the Space Marines, so I took the Dark Eldar and I've been rolling with the Kabals ever since. My brother's not a very tactically subtle guy, so he went Black Templars real fast, and I steamrollered him pretty consistently with Dark Eldar and the copious abuse of what are now darklight weapons. I'm aiming to have a 6th Ed. model range Dark Eldar army where I can run any unit to maximum size with all the armament options WYSIWYG. Haven't started that yet, mostly due to lack of time.

Well, each company will have its supporting staff of techmarines, librarians, chaplins, and whichever is included in the command squad (which has changed over the years). I probably will not have all of the armor represented, which is ok as my chapter is a fleet based one so they would not have as much (but i do have 7 land raiders, 2 razorbacks, a rhino, 2 predators, a whirlwind and rhino, plus a bike squad and landspeeder squad for good measure). Right now I am working on painting up my sternguard for the 1st company (almost complete) before I move on to painting the 4th company (have the tacticals and captain only so far). Once those are painted I need to fill in the ranks of the main companies (2nd and fifth just need 30 to 40 men) before I move on to the reserve companies (I have 12 for the 6th, two 6 man tacticals that ride in razorbacks). The scout squads I have 30 currently, but will add more. Not concerned with getting them to 100 man strong just because of a blurb that stated "depending on recruit company size varies". In time I may up my rhinos to a nice comfy level, but I think having 1k marines would be impressive enough as is, especially painted and with company and chapter banners.

40k playa here. When I used to play MtG back in 92 or 93 my buddy introduced me to 40k back then it was more of a skirmish game the way we played it. So once I got into 40k I dropped MtG after that and never looked back. A few years later I tried getting some folks into starship gaming but everyone was into 3rd ed 40k. So I went with the crowd and sold those ugly as sin DE models. I went with black templars and have yet to play any other army. I've collected tau, orks, chaos, crons, and even some fantasy models. But I sold my stuff before playing with it. They weren't a lot of models. I got a few because I liked the look of the models. A few years ago I almost quit playing because I got bored with how the marine models looked. Then GW and FW started to put out all kinds of awesome! Except for the centurion models. They still haven't grown on me yet. I was on the verge of collecting a new tau army when PB/ND launched the RRT KS. I haven't bought a GW product since then. I'll get back into playing again someday but for now it's all about RRT.
