I have often wondered about this particular power class... It does not really seem all that unique to me in comparison to other classes. In all my time running HU (almost 30 years) I cannot recall anyone ever selecting this class. Does anyone else feel differently? If so... Sell me on the unique nature of this class. What does it have to offer that cannot be duplicated by one of the other classes?

It's not you. It's crap. It just doesn't hit anything like you'd think it would. It's bonus' are dwarfed by other classes and it's just.. Yeah it's just crap. I've had a number of people go "Ohhh Hunter Vigilante! and then they read it and are like "That's not Batman.... that's not even a hunter of turkeys."

I did not even get a Kraven vibe off the class.

Yeah, it is a poorly done version of Kraven the Hunter and his ilk.
It can be useful if the GM is willing to do some work on it to keep the character in line with other players.

I don't even see it as that.
I read over it again last night, while working on my "Caped Crusader" thing. The Hunter/vigilante class very much just describes.... a guy that goes deer hunting on the weekends, maybe someone that has a number of deer heads on the wall. A bit more than your 'casual' hunter, but nothing spectacular other than the 'drive'.
I grew up in the south. The way that class is written up, the south alone is full of tens of thousands if not 100s of thousands of super heroes, and many of them work at Walmart and McDonalds. lol

So since the class seems to fail to achive the uniqueness it was intended to... How do we go about "fixing" it?

Well give it some special abilities involving tracking, intelligence, lore etc. Something beyond what regular skills can cover.

I'd make it more like Kraven or a full out special forces sniper. Drop the "Vigilante' From the description. As Jaymz said. some sort of special something that puts it over good ol boys out in the woods with their shot guns. Tracking, special prey bonus, environmental specialties (Urban, jungle, mountains, desert etc) Traps, and perhaps camoflague/stealth things. I'd write it in a way that they could be explained through mystical or mundane ways, so you could play one or the other or mix them together.
Maybe the Hunter has mystical/supernatural/some sort of funky stuff....... powers/ability's that let him disguise his scent and get bonus to prowl by wrapping shadows around him. The more modern technological guy would get the same bonus but through the use of ghille suits and scent masking chemicals. That sort of thing.

Maybe some special ammos, poisons, knock out, acid, explosive tipped, bullets or arrows. that sort of thing. Special weapon of choice with some more bonus. Etc

Hunter/Vigilante is certainly one of, if not THE (I counter with Stage Magician) weakest class in HU.
For one, it was clearly written (as all too many classes in that book) by someone who new almost nothing about what such people can do.
It was also done without concern for comparison the abilities of other classes.

I actually agree with that. It seems to fall into a.... hole? that palladium possesses. namely that they are not military guys, or hunters or gun types. thus their knowledge is from movies and such. That is coupled with the fact that many of the books are 10 15 20 25 years old, and the "common" tech level is about 1970s-early 80s, hobbles the games from time to time. The most recent HU core book was put out in 98, 16 years ago, but much of if not mostly was copied from the 1984 book. even then much of it was a bit dated. their weapons in the book top out about 1980. there have been alot of changes ib the last 35 years.

I'd be willing to add in my meager gun and weapon knowledge to that.

Back onto the original topic, beyond an update of capabilities, what do people think could fix the Hunter/Vigilante?
My suggestions are a total revision of the skills they get to reflect both the new skills that have entered the system and to revise their "special skills" into more useful and capable of skills. Say better weapons, tracking, and tracking abilities as a start.
I also think a revision of their budget and starting equipment would go a long way toward helping...something more akin to the Survivalist OCC would be better (though I think it is flawed too)
