palladium-megaverse.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=141683Snowbound weekend, December 16, 2013 The Metro-Detroit area got hammered with snow. It’s difficult to call it a storm, because the snow was light, but it NEVER stopped for something like 24 hours. We picked up something in the vicinity of 8 inches. Which meant I did a lot of snow shoveling and sweeping all-day Saturday and Sunday morning. It also meant Wayne and the guys did not come in to work over the weekend as planned. The roads were just too slick and treacherous. Julius did brave coming in on Sunday, which meant ALL Christmas Surprise Packages that came in over the weekend went out today, Monday. Still, we spent the first half of the day shipping books. Meanwhile, I have a ton of wrapping to do. A lot of other things going on - more tomorrow. Keep those orders coming in. The Surprise Package offer ends December 24, 2013. Hey, Mark Dudley's Imaginos Kickstarter is close to being funded. Awesome. I know the Palladium crew and I all placed our Kickstarter pledges today. Go get 'em, Mark. Game on! Kevin Siembieda Publisher, Writer and Surrogate Santa

Posts like this give me pause.
I live in the north. We too got about 8 inches of snow in a day. For those that live in the south this would have crippled the state for days. 8 inches of snow over a day, you know how many schools closed?
NONE.
You know what we call it when 8 inches of snow falls in a day? *Shrugs* Tuesday? It's no big thing. Slightly annoying if you gotta shovel out your car but they don't care. As I said in the south the THREAT of snow could sometimes be enough to shut down schools and grocery stores would be cleaned out. Up here 8 inches of snow closed not one school. The buses just drive on top of it or what not. No one stays home from work or anything. Nor is it 'hammered'. It's just a day that ends in "Y".

8 inches or 20cm is not insignificant to be sure but I have to ask, just how big an area is he shovelling that he was doing dit all day or did he go out and shovel snifter every couple of inches?
If the latter then that begs the question of why waste time like that wait until it's worth doing in one shot. Less tiring and more constructive.

Ehh... yeah. 8 inches is not insignificant. It's just not 'Significant' either. It's just another day in the north. It might be unpleasant, but I imagine it's like a 90 degree day in warmer climates. It's not something you hope for, but it's nothing to make out like you had to take a day of work for. EDIT: Just a note. I'm not all cracking the whip that they should be there 7 days a week. lol. Don't want to sound like I am. I'm just pointing out that 8 inches of snow is something that can happen any day of the week for 3 or 4 months in the northern parts of the country and not something to be made out to be overly odorous or something that shuts places down so one could 'not' go to work if one so chose.

I had a buddy who used to be at Fort Drum (NY). Apparently the policy was that anything under two feet was ignored. Once they hit two feet, just meant they could practice cross country skiing and snowshoe walks. If it didn't bury the houses, then it wasn't enough to stop the day.
