How similar to the vid games mechanics is the skills/feats/spell system? etc... She isn't very good at that lol so I will try, hold with me an iPhone does not make this as easy as a computer. All things operate via 3d6 from character generation to combat and saving throws. With out the book in hand this is a little awkward but combat operates via set numbers I.E soft leather armor has a rating of 8 meaning I must roll an eight to deal damage. This is not the only aspect of combat though, in DArpg they have a consent called the dragon dice (typically a different colored or designated D6) if two of your D6 roll the same number you get special attack points to add flare to your action. If I rolled on three on two of my dice and my dragon dice number was a five I would get five special points to spend (they have a chart with how much an action cost you), so I could deal extra damage hit another near by enemy or hit the same enemy a second time. As for saving throws and checks they operate very much the same. The gm will give you a member based on how difficult they feel things are and you it's match that number. Over all the feel is very much like the vid games but not so much that it takes away the feel of a table too game. My opinion green ronin did a good job mixing both worlds .

This seems similar to Fuzion's 3d6 mechanic (it had two 3d6 or 1d10 depending on the "dial settings" for your game)

This seems similar to Fuzion's 3d6 mechanic (it had two 3d6 or 1d10 depending on the "dial settings" for your game) it is pretty simple, I dare say easier then Fuzions 3d6 mechanics. I do like that the game comes in two box sets and te books are soft back but they are high gloss full color, pretty short reads so you can have the chars generated in about five to fifteen minutes and all books read in about an hour or two. So it is easy to play at a con and really easy to introduce new players to the table top world.

I'm not sure you can get simpler than 3d6+stat+skill.... but cool. Simple systems can be more complex than most think. Just look at WEGs d6.

It is recommended by me for anyone look to introduce people to table top gaming because of how easy it is. Plus being a video game setting it has a other form of media so people can get untreated in the setting.

That's one thing I have always liked about licensed properties. An alternative source for setting info.

the Books don't really include setting info. it gives you a minor version of the game in the first book, the 2nd book shows you how you're supposed to level up, and the 3rd shows the upper tier... with the game of thrones version showing how mass battle and realm building work. the rules are fine, however, the GAME IS NOT DRAGON AGE. it's the AGE system. As for how well it emulates Dragon age- It doesn't even Attempt to.
not till book 3

think of box 1 and box 2 as Variant versions of True- 20. if you want the lores of the real dragon age, you're going to have to dig into dragon age wikis for that. Main reason the game is not real dragon age = 1. Magic items are scarce. (not true in the real game. 2. Magic system not even close to that of dragon age till book 3. the craft system included is dependant on gathering X Y Z amounts of ores, plants and potions together to make items. It is nothing at all like the real dragon age. there's not even runes and lyrium is basically sparse or non existant.
Also not mentioned: Character stats should not exceed +6 until your level is high, because a 12 means Legendary.
also a big beef: you can only increase one talent at a time, if you try to increase more then one you're left with a bunch of useless focuses. - until higher level.
XP system rewards MORE on combat and stunts accumulated. There is no morality system but a bad gm can ruin it real quick.

The box set does give you information on Ferelden and it's inhabitants. Of course it is not identical to the RPG, it is a table top game. Having played all the games read all the novels and read all the comics I think it's a lot like Dragon Age! All in all it is quick and easy to learn and a ton of fun. I can't wait until set 3 comes out.

you are aware that the Dragon Age box 3 Playtest document is in public playtest and has been for a while. They have not yet released box set 3 because they are busy with Game of thrones and fleecing George RR Martin Fans .. er supporting this new fanbase.

I've considered buying this game because my wife loves the video games. I bought them both to play myself but she took over my PS3. Then I bought Skyrim and she tried the same thing but fortunately it is a huge game so I was able to get into it enough and play differently. So anyways I think having the D.A. game would be a nice change of pace occasionally.
